Grand Theatre Marquee Reconstructed

Marquee was reconstructed based on historic black & white photos. The neon color scheme was designed using historic neon colors.

Poster Boxes were reconstructed based on historic photos. Terrazzo was repaired and a new decorative "G" replaced a concrete patch at the location of historic ticket window.

California Theatre - 1st Street Facade

The historic First Street façade required extensive restoration, including the reproduction of the original 70’ tall “golden poppy” blade sign that had been sold and moved to northern California during the 1930's. Extensive field study of that original blade sign led to forensic discovery of the original paint scheme emphasizing "natural" colors. Recreation of the original marquee was from detailed study of historic photographs.

Black Box Theatre

Smaller "incubator" performance space is paired with the larger historic theater at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts.

The historic portion of the building housing the Village Theatre was originally a grange hall from 1873. The new marquee went through a Historic Design Review Committee process that sought to express the important role this building has held in the downtown.
